Jason O'Malley

I'm a full stack developer and creative technologist currently completing a Master's in Digital Media Design at Harvard Extension School. My path here ran through film production, high-profile event work in New York, teaching, and a deep curiosity about how things are built — code, stories, communities, and eventually boats.

I hold Scrum Product Owner and Product Manager certifications, am pursuing CompTIA Security+, and bring a background in project management and human-centered thinking to everything I build. I care about work that actually does something — for the people using it and the people making it.

I'm an ultra runner — yes, by choice — and I've recently caught the golf bug hard. I'm working my way through every course in the DMV area and genuinely always down for a round. If you want to tee up, let's go. Seriously. Hiring me is optional. Golf is not.

I shoot archery, make documentary and animated short films under SugarRat Productions, and donate time to causes I believe in. I explore DC's museum circuit whenever I'm in the area and eat my way through every cultural food scene I land in.

I'm a trained death doula for both humans and companion animals — two separate certifications I completed at the University of Vermont. It's taught me more about presence and meaningful connection than anything else I've done. The same qualities that make someone good in that room — listening, honesty, showing up — are the ones I bring to every team I'm part of.

I share my life with two elder Shih Tzus named Peanut and Buster, who have strong opinions about everything and are not shy about sharing them.

A small drone fleet — designing and programming my own drones with the goal of creating original light shows. I'm exploring how 3D printing can extend what's possible with custom hardware. It sits at the intersection of code, fabrication, and spectacle, which feels about right.

Also learning woodworking. The long game is building a classical wooden boat by hand. It'll take a while. That's kind of the point.

Whether it's career-driven or just something that caught my attention — I love trying new things, meeting new people, and going deep on whatever's in front of me. Not afraid of the hard stuff. Actually, that's usually where it gets interesting.
